Interview with Olivier Hubing, General Manager of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH’s delegation in Spain
To prepare for Eurocis, an important International Trade Fair on Communication Technology, Information and Security for the Retail sector, to be held in Düsseldorf from February 27th to March 1st 2018, we interviewed Olivier Hubing, CEO of Expo-Düsseldorf Spain.
- What is its role in the organization of Eurocis?
MD has a vast network of subsidiaries and delegations globally distributed, among whose functions there also are the work of promotion and sharing of advertising campaigns of the trade fairs that Messe Düsseldorf organizes, not only in Germany, but also in other places in the world.
As a Spanish delegation of MD, Expo-Düsseldorf España, S.R.L. represents the interests of the company, and promotes its portfolio of events in the national territory.
Within our skills, we also include consultancy and support in the preparation of all those who participate as exhibitors at our events.
In other words, we represent the office of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH in Spain and, in this specific case, also the office of EuroCis.
- What exactly is Eurocis, and how has it become one of the most important fairs in Europe?
Eurocis is a specific segment within EuroShop, the reference fair for the commercial equipment sector. EuroShop is a fair with a long history behind it. In its most recent editions, and until the year 2014, EuroShop hosted the following four thematic blocks:
- EuroConcept: design and construction of stores, architecture and design of department stores, lighting etc..
- EuroSales: Visual marketing & merchandising
- EuroExpo: temporary architecture / building of stands, design, conception and organization of events
- EuroCIS: “Retail Technology”
EuroCis was founded in 1997 under the name of “Retail Technology Forum”, a congress held in parallel with EuroShop (i.e. every 3 years). In 2003 it became officially known as EuroCIS, and since 2006, thanks to the innovative dynamism of this constantly evolving sector, it is celebrated annually.
From 2017 it is known as “EuroCis – The Leading Trade Fair Portal for Retail Technology“, and its thematic groups include these areas: retail software, point of sale technologies, mobile solutions, solutions for e-commerce and new systems of payment.
These are areas in continuous innovation, and the success of EuroCis is mainly due to the fact that no other event has ever been able to reflect, in such a way that is true to reality, the dynamism of technological development in the retail sector, and let alone introduce these technologies to the public in all their forms and functions.
- What kind of companies participates in this fair?
Any company that -regardless of its own size or resources- offers or projects IT solutions. These companies are highly specialized in the development of solutions applied to these specific sectors: omnichannel management, business analysis, payment systems, BigData, cash management, e-commerce and e-business solutions, business resources (ERP) and supply chain, mobile solutions and technologies, hardware and software for points of sale, check-out management, digital marketing and signage, solutions for personnel management, IoT, anti-theft systems, weighing technologies and food service.
The range of participating companies includes the entire offer, from key players such as Toshiba, IBM or NCR, to small start-ups that seek to establish themselves in international markets.
